Dr. Ervin Malakaj, Director of Undergraduate Studies, German, whose work focuses largely on queer studies, recently received two significant honours that will provide him with opportunities to further his research.

New institutional roadmap to implement EDI priorities
In September of 2022, the Strategic Equity and Anti-racism (StEAR) framework was introduced to guide UBC’s approach to the implementation of institutional equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) priorities. I am now pleased to announce the release of the StEAR Roadmap for Change, a substantive component of the framework that includes a detailed set of objectives and strategic actions to be implemented over the next three to five years.

Approximately one of every five men in Canada will experience a mental health challenge this year. Many will avoid or delay seeking support, which can lead to devastating results. Dr. Paul Sharp, a postdoctoral fellow with UBC’s Men’s Health Research Program and member of the Reducing Male Suicide Research Cluster, would like to help men find ways to tackle their mental health challenges through social connections.
