Message to the UBC community
A message from Professor Deborah Buszard, Interim President and Vice-Chancellor As UBC’s newly appointed Interim President and Vice-Chancellor, I would like to thank UBC Board Chair Nancy McKenzie and the Board of Governors for entrusting me with this responsibility. It is an honour to take on the position and contribute to this remarkable university. I enjoyed serving as Deputy-Vice Chancellor and Principal, UBC Okanagan from 2012 to 2020 and I look forward to working with you all during this time.

Too much screen time can slow children’s recovery from concussions, but new research from UBC and the University of Calgary suggests that banning screen time is not the answer. The researchers looked for links between the self-reported screen time of more than 700 children aged 8-16 in the first 7-10 days following an injury, and symptoms reported by them and their caregivers over the following six months.

This November, UBC will be welcoming nearly 7,000 alumni from the classes of 2020 and 2021 on the Vancouver campus back to experience the in-person graduation they missed during the pandemic, on top of celebrating the achievements of over 2,000 students during fall congregation. At UBC Okanagan, make-up ceremonies will be held for graduates from the classes of Spring 2020 and 2021. A number of volunteering opportunities are available for faculty and staff.
